I have been a member of the Fairborn community for over twenty years now. I love how this community honors soldiers at every opportunity. I love the flags waving, the crowds lining the streets for parades, the annual block party, car shows, 9/11 ceremony EVERY year. As with any community, its the people that make the place, and the citizens of Fairborn do America proud.

When I moved to Fairborn, Ohio, nine years ago, the patriotism of the residents was inspiring. The Air Force Museum there is a great place to visit. In addition to displays of military history and airplanes including those used by past presidents, there are interactive displays and an IMAX theater. When I visited the post office there were always people sending packages to our service men and women overseas. People at ball games and other activities stand with their hands over their hearts and sing the National Anthem, and that includes me.

There is a collaboration between the city, organizations in the city and Operation Fairborn Cares to care for post 9/11 veterans as they transition into the civilian community after their deployments. It fills the gaps that government agencies and others are not taking care of. We want to help our veteran heros.

I lived in Fairborn while I was growing up. I graduated from FHS in 1966. I think it's a wonderful place to raise children. It's fairly rural yet close enough to major shopping. It still has the home town feel and appeal it always held for me. When I was back there, I visited several people who were still living in the same houses they'd been in during the 50's and beyond. I always loved the 4th of July parade and celebration and especially loved the way they honored Memorial Day.

Foy's is one of the most interesting stores in Fairborn. It was established in 1929 and is still family owned. They have six stores. Only three is open all year the rest are open during October. During October they become the biggest Halloween store in the state of Ohio. The Fairborn Chamber sponsors the Halloween Festival which is the last weekend of October. The City has a Halloween Parade along with costume judging. The Foy's Rock and Roll Grill serves breakfast and lunch. It is he home of the famous Foy Burger. They have a special of the day! Along with lots of good food on the menu! The Grill and Variety store is like a walk down memory line. We have a lovely historical district. Wonderful old homes. A historical log cabin. Concerts and Festival in our parks during the summer.
