Lewiston’s proximity to Niagara Falls in the Niagara River region makes for a mix of outdoor recreation, history, shopping and food and wine. While a trip to the falls is a must, the Niagara River provides the perfect setting for picnicking, hiking and white water rafting. Visitors often come to boat and fish as well, with biking, cross-country skiing, Frisbee golf and swimming also available.

At Niagara Falls take a boat tour on the famed Maid of the Mist or aim for an aerial view with a helicopter ride. Then head to the Niagara County Wine Trail where over a dozen wineries offer tours, tastings and year round events. Visit in July for the Annual Wine and Culinary Festival or September for Harvest Fest, amongst others.

Lewiston has a rich history for its role in the War of 1812 and the Underground Railroad. Tour Old Fort Niagara or The Lewiston Museum to go back in time, or visit one of three local theatres and Artpark in the summers for entertainment and creativity showcased. Our Lady of Fatima Shrine is another cultural attraction with scenic and spiritual significance.

Most importantly, Lewiston’s dining is enough of a draw on its own. Our team’s favorite stops included Orange Cat Coffee Company, Tommy George’s Village Coffee House, Mangia Café and Bakery, Village Bake Shoppe, Brickyard, Apple Granny, Hibbard’s Custard, Macri’s Italian Garden and six other fantastic finds. See where locals love to eat in Lewiston’s reviews.

Lewiston is the picture perfect town that truly has it all -- the beautiful scenery of the Niagara River and Canada, quaint Center Street lined with shoppes and manicured with flowers, stately homes on the river, the friendliest people in the world ... and FOOD! The restaurants are fabulous. There is something for everyone, from upscale restaurants like Casa Antica to the mom and pop feel of Macri's Italian Restaurant, pizza (don't miss Trusello's!), bakeries like DiCamillo's, Village Bake Shoppe -- both of which have been featured in national publications -- and burger and custard places, the best of which is undeniably Hibbard's! Lewiston is a hidden jewel.

I've traveled all over the country. There is no town that compares to Lewiston as far as the quality, variety, and reasonable pricing when it comes to dining. My personal favorites are Apple Granny for their fish fries and wings (and friendly staff!), and The Village Pub for their burgers and Guiness wings. The people of the town are warm and friendly.
