Description

Magnificent scenery and wildlife abound on this loop_x000b_route. For road-trippers, there are places to explore that cruise ship passengers will never see. Miles of marine highway ferry system connect islands and mainland routes, transporting cars as well as passengers. Miles of two-lane highways connect villages and cities on roads once traversed mainly by dog sled in winter and reduced to thick mud in summer. The drive ranges from Kodiak Island, up the Kenai Peninsula to Anchorage, then into the interior as far as Fairbanks. Nudge down into Valdez before returning to Anchorage.
