Description

Our 16th president Abraham Lincoln's legacy lives in Springfield, Illinois. Most Lincoln sites are concentrated within a mile of each other. Start with the impressive Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum, then venture to the Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices, Lincoln Home National Historic Site, and Lincoln Depot. At Mr. Lincoln's Souvenirs, pick from a 1,000 Abe items. Springfield's architecture is noteworthy. Tour Frank Lloyd Wright's Dana-Thomas House and the restored, pre-Civil War home of poet Vachel Lindsay. Both are near the Illinois State Museum and Inn at 835, a Classic Revival-style landmark. Famed U.S. Route 66 travels through Springfield, Illinois, passing near Oak Ridge Cemetery, Lincoln's resting place, and classic 1949 Cozy Dog Drive In hot dog stand. Before heading 20 miles northwest of Springfield to Lincoln's New Salem Historic Site, a reconstructed log village of Abe's early years, fill up at Shea's Gas Station and Route 66 memorabilia museum.
