On this road trip that runs deep in the heart of the Ozark Mountains, music and nature are the stars of the show. Start your journey just north of the tiny town of Mountain View, Arkansas, at Ozark Folk Center State Park on AR 382. Craft workshops allow you to try the dulcimer, autoharp, or fiddle, while other workshops teach quilting and herb gardening. You can also watch blacksmithing demonstrations and enjoy traditional American mountain music performances. Be sure to enjoy some southern eats at The Skillet restaurant in the folk center, and on your way out, stop at McSpadden's Dulcimers, at the Ozark Folk Center State Park turnoff, for a musical souvenir. Head 15 miles northwest of Mountain View to Blanchard Springs Cavern, off AR 14, in the Ozark National Forest. Guided tours bring you to the underground river in this living cave. Head farther north toward Mountain Home, Arkansas, for a horse vacation at Stone Creek Ranch; cabins, apartments, guest rooms, and a lodge are available.
