Embark on a journey that takes you around the Great Lakes, the largest system of fresh, surface water on Earth. Begin your expedition in Chicago, a city of the Midwest where the first skyscrapers were constructed beginning in 1885. Visit the Sears Tower and the Hancock Building. Continue through Gary, Indiana, America's steel capital once upon a time, along Lake Michigan's southern shore, and carry on north to Petoskey, Michigan, to discover coral pieces more than 350 million years old. Cross the Mackinac Suspension Bridge and you're still in Michigan, where you can explore 879,600 acres of wildlife at the Hiawatha National Forest in Escanaba before continuing south along Wisconsin's Lake Michigan shoreline, concluding your excursion through the Midwest's nucleus in northern Illinois.
