Prepare yourself for some glimpses of the long-gone Old West along this tour of southwestern New Mexico. Visit Shakespeare Ghost Town, "the west's most authentic ghost town." Big Ditch Park is another point of interest along this tour. Between 1895 and 1906, a series of floods washed through Main Street creating a deep canyon. The force of water actually turned some buildings 180 degrees. Head to Caballo Lake State Park between October and February for a glimpse at the nesting habits of bald eagles. Continue on to Deming and visit the historic Deming Luna Mimbres Museum, which houses artifacts over 1,000 years old. The building itself was used after Pancho Villa's raid on a nearby town. Hydrate yourself with a sip of water from the Mimbres River, which is 99.9 percent pure.
