Will Rogers State Historic Park
The former home and ranch of Golden Age actor, comedian, cowboy, and Guiness Book world record-holder Will Rogers is a popular destination for local hikers, dog lovers, and polo enthusiasts, in addition to tourists taking in the scenic beauty of this 186-acre historical landmark. Open daily from 8 a.m. to sunset, the park is day-use only, so no overnight camping. A small fee applies to cars entering the grounds, but once inside, complimentary activities include house tours, live polo matches (in season from April to October), and outdoors treks around the "inspiration loop," (two miles roundtrip) known for its iconic city, ocean, and Catalina views on clear days. Dogs are allowed on the fire road, provided they are kept on-leash. Should inspiration point inspire you to fire up your laptop or PDA, WiFi service is available within close proximity to the rangers station.
