Vischer Ferry Nature and Historic Preserve

Description

The 600 acre Vischer Ferry Nature and Historic Preserve is part of the Vischer Ferry National Historic District and contains the remains of the Erie Canal, including historic lock 19, and watered sections of both the original 1825 and the enlarged 1842 canal. Hike south to the Mohawk River which is the current Erie Canal. Historic Clutes Dry Dock marks the eastern end of the Preserve. This area was rich farm land used by Native Americans for centuries and by our European ancestors up until the 1930s. Forts Ferry area was one of the first communities in the Town of Clifton Park.
