Virginia & Truckee Railroad

Completed in 1870, the Virginia & Truckee Railroad is the most famous American short-line railroad still in operation. The precious cargo this train has been entrusted to carry has ranged from presidents to millions in gold and silver to the countless families enjoying the modern tour. Powered by a steam locomotive, the train continues to follow its 1870 right-of-way from Virginia City to the historic mining town of Gold Hill, while a second excursion train travels all the way to Carson City. The V&T operates seven days a week from Memorial Day to October 31.
