Twin Lakes Dam/Reservoir and Mt. Elbert Power Plant

Recognizing the value of a dam and reservoir, the Twin lakes Reservoir & Canal Company acquired the rights to build a reservoir in 1897, raising the lake levels with a dam and dredging the channel between the lakes. The current dam and Mt. Elbert Power Plant are part of the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project, which diverts water from the western slope of the Continental Divide to the eastern slope for irrigation, municipal and industrial use, generating power as it passes through the power plant.
