The Steinbeck House

The colorful, fully restored, Queen Anne--style house that was the birthplace and childhood home of the novelist, John Steinbeck, is now a lunch restaurant (reservations highly recommended), serving dishes made using produce from the surrounding Salinas Valley---the so-called Salad Bowl of the World.

The menu changes monthly, so it always captures the season, and the wine list features Monterey County varieties. There’s also a gift shop and Saturday afternoon teas, which feature fruit and freshly baked pastries. A stop here is perfect before or after a visit to the National Steinbeck Center, where you can learn all about the author.
