The Red Onion Cafe

The duo that owns and runs this place are both from southwestern Missouri---hence, the casual, friendly atmosphere that’s so in sync with Joplin’s overall vibe. And a lunch or dinner here puts you right in historic downtown, the very heart of this big-hearted community. Lots of love goes into the food, too. Look for American classics with a twist: the sirloin steak and grilled chicken come with new-potato hash, the grilled lemon tilapia comes with wild rice and roasted vegetables, and the signature burgers come with spicy fries. It’s the perfect place to grab a bite before a night time Spook Light spotting adventure. Or, for a quick pick-me-up, head to the nearby Red Onion Espressoria (32nd and Indiana streets).
