The Griswold Inn

The beloved “Gris” has been a hostelry and tavern pretty much since opening in 1776. It rarely gets more authentic than this. The 33 rooms and suites have been modernized for comfort and convenience yet restored and decorated to period. The downstairs dining room specializes in fresh, flavorful, simply prepared American cuisine, sometimes featuring historical menus.

The Wine Room has a tapas menu and tastings. The memorabilia-filled Tap Room, one of Esquire magazine’s 100 Best Bars in America, serves up live music—from sea shanties to Dixieland banjo to rock—with beer, ale, and pub fare. Before leaving, pick up mementos across the street in Goods & Curiosities.
