Submarine Force Museum

Description

Submarines are an integral but often overlooked part of military history. Not at this museum and library operated by the U.S. Navy. More than 80,000 documents, photographs, and artifacts—from models to navigation equipment to weaponry—showcase the contributions of these underwater vessels. The museum, which is on the Thames River, is also the official home of the USS Nautilus (SSN 571), the world’s first nuclear submarine (launched just downriver in 1955). See firsthand how its crew lived, worked, and made history.
