Schmidt’s Restaurant and Fudge Haus

Description

Schmidt’s was established as a German Village meat-packing business by an immigrant from Frankfurt back in the 1880s. The restaurant, opened in 1967 near the meat-packing plant, is still owned and operated by the Schmidt family. The menu is steeped in tradition, too, with sausage platters, wiener schnitzel, sauerbraten, and spaetzle. This is also a great place to try sauerkraut balls: bratwurst mixed with sauerkraut, rolled into balls, coated in batter, and deep-fried. Don’t miss the neighboring Schmidt’s Fudge Haus & Gifts, with its hand-crafted chocolates, including Ohio’s renowned peanut-butter-and-chocolate buckeyes.
