Saratoga Monument

Built between 1877 and 1883, this 155-foot stone obelisk commemorates the American victory in the Battle of Saratoga. Inside, 16 large bronze plaques help tell the story of the American Revolution and the Battle of Saratoga as visitors ascend the stairs to the top of the monument.

When visiting, notice the four exterior niches. Each represents one American officer related to the Battle of Saratoga; but what is missing on the monument tells us as much as what is there. Visit us at to view our “Passage Minute” short videos to discover who is missing from the monument and why
