Pirogue Island State Park

Located on the Yellowstone River north of Miles City, Pirogue Island State Park is an excellent spot for moss agate hunting, fishing, and wildlife watching. The park occupies a 210-acre, cottonwood-covered island where deer, waterfowl and bald eagles take shelter. A bicycle trail, horse trail, and 2.4-mile hiking trail give you convenient access into the park. To get to the island, take Montana 59 for one mile north from Miles City, go east on Kinsey Road for two miles, then south on the county road for two miles. Use care in crossing the side channels to get to the island.
