O'Rourke’s Diner

Not only is this shiny, Art-Deco diner a local architectural landmark, but it also serves a local specialty: the steamed cheeseburger. It sounds weird, but this method of preparation results in a truly juicy, truly tender patty with cheese melted into every nook and cranny. The owner’s uncle, who opened this diner in 1941, once worked at the gone-but-not-forgotten Jack’s Lunch, the Middletown institution where the steamed cheeseburger reportedly originated.
