Old Military Crossing

Historically it is said that the Mohawk River was shallow enough in areas that one could cross by stepping from stone to stone and not get their feet wet. Well established trails used by Native Americans became a military crossing used when water levels in Waterford were high. In 1907 the New York Power Authority constructed a dam here that created a large lake back upstream to Vischer Ferry and the Lock 7 Dam.
