Natural Bridge State Park

Before the advent of billon-dollar theme parks, an entrepreneur only had to discover a natural attraction, set up a gate, and charge admission. That’s what happened at the Natural Bridge. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the 215-foot-high, 90-foot-span arch became particularly popular with European travelers, and visitors could opt to be lowered over the edge in a steel cage while a violinist played. The bridge regularly appeared on Wonders of the World lists. Today the majestic formation is part of a 1,500-acre state park that includes 6 miles of trails and a visitors center.
