National Soaring Museum

Description

The first national soaring contest was held in Elmira back in 1930, making it the Soaring Capital of America. This museum, atop Harris Hill and overlooking a historic and still-operational airfield, honors that legacy. Artifacts and vintage, classic, and modern gliders provide a comprehensive look at motor-less flight. You can also fly silently over the Chemung River valley on a Harris Hill Soaring Corporation glider ride (weekends Apr.–May and Sept.–Oct., daily June–Aug.).
