Museum of Contemporary Art - Los Angeles

Description

Designed by Japanese architect Arata Isozaki, MOCA Grand Avenue is the flagship of the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art's three locations. The only contemporary art museum in Los Angeles, MOCA has approximately 6,000 fine works created since 1940 in its permanent collection. Among its most notable pieces are box constructions and collages by Joseph Cornell, pop art and abstract expressionist pieces from Robert Rauschenberg and Mark Rothko, and an array of photographs. Great emphasis is placed on education, from hands-on workshops to lectures. First Sundays are For Families, a series of free all-ages workshops, is a popular program that encourages people to create art in response to what they have seen on a museum visit. Visitors should note that MOCA Grand Avenue is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
