Mud Dabber's Pottery & Crafts

Description

The first thing to greet visitors in this studio-gallery is a large sun mask affixed to the chimney, its purple tongue hanging out and its mouth frozen in a loopy grin. This piece is a fitting introduction to the work of potter Brad Dobson, whose parents started the business back in the 1970s. In addition to the sun masks, which have become Mud Dabber's signature item, Brad's whimsical creations include face jugs, mountain gnomes, and "rugged old man of the mountain" masks. There's also plenty of functional pottery on display -- Brad, his brother John, and other members of the Dobson family produce attractive bowls, mugs, pitchers, lamps, and more. Visitors are often invited back into the studio areas to observe the pottery-making process.
