Morton Theatre

Stop by the beautifully restored Morton Theatre to get a flavor of Athens nightlife in the early years of the 20th century. "Pink" Morton, a successful African-American businessman and prominent figure in Athens' history, constructed this vaudeville house in 1910. Listen close and you can still hear the jumping rhythms of Bessie Smith, Cab Calloway, Louis Armstrong, and Duke Ellington echoing down the years. It's at 195 W Washington St. (706-613-3770).
