Minnesota State Capitol

Description

Designed by Cass Gilbert, the capitol building is modeled after Rome's Saint Peter's Basilica. The unsupported marble dome is the second largest in the world, after St. Peter's. Shimmering, gold-leafed sculptures adorn the building listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Additional sculptures of statesmen and heroes stand throughout the building and grounds.
