Melrose Estate

Description

Located in Natchez National Historical Park in Mississippi, this mansion was built in 1801 by John T. McMurran, an ambitious lawyer. This Greek-revival style home was massive at its peak, containing five plantations during its prime. By the end of the Civil War, years of Southern economic decline took its toll, and the McMurran family had to eventually sell the estate.
