Lake Vesuvius Recreation Area

Description

Lake Vesuvius Recreation Area is located in the Wayne National Forest, which features many locations of scenic and historic interest: the Vesuvius iron blast furnace of 1833; natural bridge; covered bridges; Indian mounds and prehistoric earthworks. The recreation area has two campgrounds, each with modern sites and one with comfort stations. Handicapped-accessible sites and facilities are available. Reservations are recommended for all campsites. Lake Vesuvius offers paddle boat and canoe rentals. Other activities include swimming, fishing, hiking and horseback trails, and picnicking. The beach is available from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and lifeguards are not present. Any fishing requires an Ohio state fishing license. Horses and stables are not available here. Your own horse is required. The park is open year-round, but the campgrounds are open only from April 21 to October 31. Pets: Leashed pets are permitted. Restrictions: Alcohol is not permitted in the park. This ban is strictly enforced.
