Kentucky Horse Park and Training Grounds

Only mildly curious about horses? You’ll still need a day just for the highlights of this enormous complex. True horse lover? Plan on the two days allowed for with a general admission ticket. There’s always something happening in the show and training rings, arenas, stadium, amphitheater, steeplechase course, and 24 barns. Stop at the visitors center to see what’s on, then take an orientation trolley or horse-drawn carriage tour (yup, this place is that big!).

The International Museum of the Horse showcases saddles and tack; horse-drawn conveyances; and equine-themed paintings, folk art, photography, and sculpture. The American Saddlebred Museum highlights a beautiful and uniquely American breed of show horse. Options for the younger set include the Kids Barn, with interactive exhibits, storytelling sessions, and the chance to groom some ponies. Rounding things out are an amenities-loaded campground; gift, tack, and farrier shops; organized tours of area horse farms; and, of course, horseback riding!
