Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center
While little Kathy Hepburn—born in Hartford in 1907 and raised in Old Saybrook—was growing up and going on to become the great Katharine Hepburn, the playhouse known as the Old Saybrook Town Hall was hosting plays and the town’s first movies. Katharine frequently returned to her hometown prior to retiring here in 1997, and the playhouse was renamed in her honor after her death in 2003. Today it hosts productions by local and regional troupes, movies (often featuring Kate), and concerts. A small museum honoring the actress is just off the lobby.
