Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park
Big Sur’s most dramatic state park showcases 3,762 acres of spectacular coastal cliffs and an 80-foot waterfall plunging into the ocean. Trails meander along bluffs, offering peeks of migrating gray whales in winter, plus sea lions and seals year round. Birdwatchers appreciate the array of black cormorants, seagulls, brown pelicans, condors, and black oystercatchers.
Scuba divers flock to the 1,680-acre underwater preserve at Partington Cove—a kelp forest here is abundant with sea life. Two very rustic campsites, Saddle Rock and South Garden, are in a lovely cypress grove ¼-mile west of the parking lots.
