International Museum of the Horse

Description

What better place for a large and comprehensive equine museum than the Kentucky Horse Park and Training Grounds, smack in the middle of Bluegrass Country? Consider starting with the Legacy of the Horse exhibit, which documents both the evolution of this creature and its role in society through the ages and throughout the world. Other galleries focus on specific breeds, such as Arabian horses or Kentucky Thoroughbreds; still others, on horses in sports, on farms, or in the military.

The museum also has extensive collections of horse-drawn conveyances; saddles and tack; and equine-themed paintings, sculpture, photography, and folk art. A gift shop sells photographs and museum-themed souvenirs. Note that entrance here is included in general admission to the horse park, but you can buy a museum-only combo ticket that’s good both here and at the American Saddlebred Museum. Also, word is, you should bring a sweater; the thermostat is set low to help preserve many of the artifacts.
