Huntington Beach State Park

Description

Find exceptional wildlife viewing in one of South Carolina’s best-preserved state parks. Hiking and interpretive trails wind through habitats ranging from freshwater lagoons to salt marshes. More than 300 recorded species make it a premier birding site. The park also incorporates the historic Atalaya Castle, including the studio of sculptress Anna Hyatt Huntington, who with her husband, Archer Huntington, also founded nearby Brookgreen Gardens.

Visit in September to shop for jewelry, glassworks, ceramics, basketry and other works at the renowned Atalaya Arts and Crafts Festival. Outside the “royal” walls during the festival, fantastic music, Lowcountry cuisine, and beach parties reign.
