Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum

Relive childhood memories aboard the museum's two operating Allan Herschell carousels -- a full size, three-abreast machine manufactured in 1916 and a children's carousel made in the 1940s. These restored beauties, complete with Wurlitzer band organs, will tickle young and old alike. A collection of carousel animals illustrates the changes in style that took place over a period of 60 years. The museum also offers woodcarving classes. No longer producing carousels, the site is operated by the Carousel Society of the Niagara Frontier and a group of dedicated enthusiasts. The museum is open April 2 to June 8, Wed. to Sun. noon to 4 PM; June 11 to September 1, Mon. to Sat. 10 AM to 4 PM, and Sun. noon to 4 PM; September 4 to December 27, Wed. to Sun. noon to 4 PM. Admission -- $5 for adults, $2.50 for children -- includes one carousel ride. Additional rides are $.50 each. Located north of Buffalo in North Tonawanda. From I-290, take Exit 1 and go north on Delaware until it turns into Main. At Thompson, take a right.
