Giant City State Park

Named for its towering sandstone formations, some as tall as 80 feet, Giant City State Park offers trails ranging from one-third to 12 miles for hiking and horseback riding (the park stable rents horses for trail rides as a seasonal feature). There are ponds for fishing, and two areas of the park are open to rock climbers, although climbers must bring their own equipment, and they tackle these rocks at their own risk. Don't miss the opportunity to climb the water tower, to see the locally famous cross at Alto Pass. The park lodge and restaurant, built of sandstone and white oak in the 1930s, closes from early December through mid-Februrary, but the park is open year round. Picnic shelters, playgrounds, and a campground are located within the park. All campsites are first-come, first-served. Leashed pets are permitted.
