Georgetown Loop Railroad

Description

During the 75-minute, 3-mile train ride between Georgetown and Silver Plume, about 45 minutes west of Denver, you’ll traverse a 19th-centruy railroading marvel: the reconstructed 95-foot Devil’s Gate High Bridge. All told, the line climbs 640 feet in a “corkscrew” route along a narrow-gauge (3-foot-wide) track over trestles and amid rugged terrain.

Diesel trains depart Georgetown several times daily (May–mid-Oct.) or on weekends (mid-Oct.–Jan.); summertime sees additional daily departures from Silver Plume. Hour-long walking tours of an 1870 silver mine also are available. Reservations are recommended for all trips.
