Garden of the Gods

At Garden of the Gods city park, soaring sandstone formations take center stage before looming Pikes Peak and the never-ending Colorado sky. Bizarre towers, balancing rocks, and eroded pinnacles dot this 1,391-acre preserve near Manitou Springs. Tarantulas, honey ants, rattlesnakes, mule deer, magpies, hawks, and bighorn sheep all share the park's land. Explore Garden of the Gods on a guided walk with a naturalist or hike one of the many trails on your own. The visitor center includes a movie (fee), exhibits, bus tour (fee; summer only), nature talks, a cafe, and gift shops. The park is open from 5 AM to 11 PM in summer, 5 AM to 9 PM in winter. The visitor center is open from 9 AM to 5 PM in winter, 8 AM to 8 PM from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. Admission to the park and visitor center is free.
