Fossil Discovery Trail

The Fossil Discovery Trail, a 1.5-mile (round-trip) hike within the Dinosaur National Monument, reveals eons-old dinosaur bones both large and small, including leg bones and at least one bumpy length of vertebrae. Visitors can actually run their hands over embedded fossils. (Touching the fossils is permitted; moving or collecting them is not.) Though classified as easy to moderate, the Fossil Discovery Trailis somewhat steep, so proper footwear is a must. Stop by the temporary visitor center first for ranger tips on where to find the most impressive fossil specimens on the trail.
