Fort York

Established in 1793 by the British, this fort was largely destroyed by attacking troops in 1813 during the battle of York. It was rebuilt over the next two years and now is fully restored with seven original log, stone, and brick buildings. A visit to the fort will give an idea of what life was like for a British soldier in the early 19th century. The Fort York Guard, a costumed staff portraying an authentically equipped military unit, performs fife-and-drums marches on the grounds in July and August. Located at the end of Garrison Rd between Bathurst and Strachan.
