Fort Washakie

Description

Now on the Wind River Indian Reservation, this fort has been named after three different leaders since its inception in 1869: General Christopher Augur, Captain Frederick H. Brown, and Chief Washakie. Today Sacajawea and Chief Washakie are buried here where the Shoshone Tribal Cultural Center is open to the public. Also visit the Chief Washakie Plunge pool and any of the varied trading posts and gift shops.
