Fort Dodge

Fort Dodge stands as a testament to the tough road of western expansion in the U.S. during the 1800s. Named after Brigadier General Greenville M. Dodge, this military fortification served as a supplement to a nearby fort to provide protection along the Santa Fe Trail. While Dodge City is mostly known for its band of outlaws and other characters, it also served a key role in the Indian War. Today the fort is preserved by the Ford County Historical Society and is open for regular visits.
