Edsel and Eleanor Ford House

Description

Henry Ford's only son, Edsel, built his English Cotswold-style mansion beginning in 1926 on an 87-acre estate on the shores of Lake St. Clair. A few years later, he built a 2/3-scale, Tudor-style "playhouse" on the grounds for his seven-year-old daughter. Your kids are going to beg you to build one, too. The 60-room mansion, with much of its original furnishings and artwork in place, is open for tours Tuesday through Saturday 10 AM to 4 PM, and Sunday noon to 4 PM. (Hours January through March are Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4 PM.) After your tour, you can have lunch in the Tea Room, open from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM April through early January (closed mid-January through March).
