Custer State Park Resort

Description

Pick from this state park resort’s four amenities-filled lodges based on your favorite outdoor activity. Trail rides and nightly hayride chuck-wagon cookouts depart from the Bluebell Lodge, with its four-person log cabins. Legion Lake Lodge rents paddleboats and other water craft.

The lodge and motel-style rooms at the State Game Lodge, a grand 1920s wood-and-fieldstone structure on the National Register of Historic Places, are amid forest near a trout-filled creek. The romantic Sylvan Lake Lodge, inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1937, is near the trail to 7,242-foot Harney Peak and along the scenic, 14-mile Needles Highway. Myriad tent and RV campgrounds—from modern to primitive—round out the offerings.
