Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area

Description

This 17,000-acre piece of Crown land surrounding the Kootenay River is protected by the Creston Valley Wildlife Act, which mandated management of the area in 1968. Once a flood plain, it has become a thriving wildlife habitat and a particularly inviting home for waterfowl. The government teamed with local organizations to construct dykes that regulate water levels so the species can nest and grow its population. Visitors can hike the many trails that are always open, fish on the area's lakes, and go biking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, or boating.
