What do Native American baskets, marine life, chandeliers, and Japanese flower arrangements have in common? They all influence the colorful, textural, blown-glass sculptures of Dale Chihuly. The Washington State artist draws from his background in architecture, interior design, and art. To learn his craft, he studied under American masters as well as those at Italy’s prestigious Venini glass studio. His singular pieces and full—often enormous—installations have been exhibited in museums throughout the world, including the Smithsonian, the Louvre, and the New York Botanical Garden.
A purpose-built facility houses the magnificent Chihuly pieces in this permanent collection; visits here are truly stunning visual experiences. A 30-minute video introduces you to the artist and his works, docent-led tours lend still more insight, and a gift shop sells Chihuly merchandise. The collection is affiliated with the Morean Arts Center, directly across the street, which is known for its on-site Glass Studio and Hot Spot where you can watch master glass-blowers at work and enjoy your own personal glass-blowing experience.
