Catalina Casino

Description

The Catalina Casino, rising 12 stories and perched at one end of Avalon Bay, is a striking Catalina Island landmark, symbolizing the island's historic charm and appeal as a premier destination for Southern California pleasure seekers. Contrary to the circular Art Deco building's name, no gambling takes place here. Rather, "casino" refers to the original Italian definition: "A place for entertainment." And to that end, the casino is divided into a grand ballroom, and an opulent movie theater decorated with Art Deco murals and designed after the classic picture palaces. The ballroom is a popular choice for weddings and corporate events and features an arching, 50-foot ceiling and five Tiffany chandeliers. Underscoring the casino's significance to Catalina's social life, the ballroom plays host to many of the island's major indoor events, including the New Year's Eve Celebration and the Catalina Island Jazz Festival. Casino tours are offered daily.
