Cape Henry Lighthouse

Fort Story, home of the Battle of the Capes Monument, is also the location of the Cape Henry Lighthouse. This venerable old lighthouse was the first federal public works project authorized by the United States government. Its construction was ordered by George Washington in 1792. You can climb to the very top and look over the Atlantic Ocean. The Cape Henry Lighthouse is located in Fort Story very near the Battle of the Capes Monument. Follow Atlantic Avenue north until you reach Fort Story. Follow the signs to the lighthouse.
