Brown County State Park

Description

Founded in 1929, this 16,000-acre oasis is nicknamed the Little Smokies because of its resemblance to the Great Smoky Mountains. Densely forested hills and valleys, rugged ridges, and deep ravines entice hikers and fall-foliage enthusiasts.

You can camp or book a motel room or cabin at the Abe Martin Lodge (877/563-4371 for reservations), which was built in 1932 and has a restaurant and indoor water park open to nonguests. Other park and lodge amenities include interpretive nature programs, playgrounds, picnic areas, tennis courts, a swimming pool, hiking and biking trails, and 70 miles of equestrian trails.
