Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary

Description

Ponderosa pines dot the vast grasslands of this sanctuary, where over 600 Choctaw ponies and American, Spanish, and Curly mustangs run wild. Tour fees are high, but proceeds go toward funding this entirely nonprofit operation, whose residents include many rescue horses. Among the offerings are two-hour bus excursions, three-hour 4WD cross-country expeditions, and four-hour photo safaris. Overnight visits with tours and stays in a rustic cabin are also an (expensive) option. At the on-site gift shop, 89% of sales go toward mustang care.
