America’s most renowned prison lies in the center of San Francisco Bay. Once home to infamous inmates including Al Capone and George “Machine Gun” Kelly, it now houses elaborate gardens, fantastic bay views, and a museum detailing “The Rock’s” storied past. Over a million people ferry over from Fisherman’s Wharf year-round for guided multi-lingual audio tours, so book early. Mid-afternoon offers the best chance of avoiding the fog, though be sure to dress warm whatever time you depart. Night Tours are fun as well.
